Viola PennyTM ‘Marlies’
LOOMIS CREEK RELIES ON POTS of pansies and violas to brighten up our nursery and gardens in early April. They offer a quick, inexpensive color fix after a long winter, providing lots of bang for the buck. We choose the colors, patterns, and faces of our violas and pansies almost as seriously as we do paint and fabrics for our house. Sometimes they are fashion-forward; sometimes they flop.
Viola PennyTM ‘Marlies’ is a Goldsmith Seeds 2009 introduction that caught our attention this season. We love the color play of the 1 ¼”-inch flowers with deep purple-lavender upper wings above gold-dusted petals splotched with a burgundy-black eye. This viola is heat tolerant, offers non-stretching stems under warm conditions, and develops a robust root system.
Here’s the Loomis Creek lineup of pansies & violas for 2010:
PANSIES: Blueberry Thrill; Delta Series Pure Deep Orange; Majestic Giant II Bonfire; Matrix Series Coastal Sunrise Mix
VIOLAS: Penny Series Marlies; Sorbet Series Antique Shades, Babyface Primrose, Babyface Ruby Gold, Black Delight, Coconut Swirl, Terra Cotta; Velour Series Blue Bronze
